To reveal the true nature of our Ancestors language we must first look at who they were, and where they lived. The Cimbric peninsula, arrogantly and lazily dubbed Jutland by monks with their tunge scīnende (tongue science!) had many tribes living within its border. It stretched far down to the continent of Gaul and near to Frankia. They were called The Suevii. They honoured sacred diversity and flourished with a rich culture, democratic laws, and distinctive appearance. They wore their hair long. The Lombards became famous for the length they would grow their hair. Each tribe had its own affiliations. One such confederation of tribes honoured and worshipped the Goddess Nerthus, the Earth mother.
It was this confederation that migrated slowly but surely to Britannia within the time frame of the Roman occupation. Tacitus, the major Roman chronicler always referred to the great sea as the North Ocean or the 'Whale bridge' and it is this ocean he cites as having an island where Nerthus has her sacred Grove. It has been suggested that it is Britain where the Nerthus' spirituality was dominant.
They lived a life so intimately close to nature their language was conceptual in nature, tied to the instinctive understanding of the cycles of the moon and sun, the seasons turning, and crops spiritually nourished. Their lives depended on that deep understanding of a world external and wide, supported by their gods and goddesses, and not the inner world of the words and logic the religious monks brought into their lives.
The Suevii had little need for the written word. They saw auguries in nature from messages given in sounds, and symbols, inner voices of the ancestors and deep communication using the runic symbols, each having a sound that could summon the unseen powers. And all of it connected to Nerthus, the earth mother. Why would they want to change that? They did not. It was forced upon them.
The white “auguries” of the Wihtwara
Tacitus wrote in his chronicle, Germania, a passage describing the milk-white augury horses of the Suevii.
In common with other nations, The Suevii (Germans) are acquainted with the practise of auguring from the notes and flight of birds, but it is peculiar to them, (Suevii) to derive admonitions and presages from horses also.
“Certain of these animals, milk-white, and untouched of earthly labour, are pastured at the public expense in the sacred woods and groves. These, yokes to a consecrated chariot, are accompanied by the priest, and king, who attentively observe their manner of neighing and snorting: and no kind of augury is more credited, not only among the populace, but among nobles and priests. For the latter consider themselves as the ministers of the gods, and the horses, as privy to the divine will.”
And of the false naming of the Suevii to Germania, Tacitus is quick to note that one particularly furious and dreaded tribe, the Germans, overtook many other peaceful tribes and the Suevii were usurped into having this name falsely given to them all! He was tireless in his search for authenticity.
The earlier Roman reports from 'Pliny the elder', and his nephew 'Pliny the Younger', who communicated with 'Tacitus' are as much of a first-hand account of the places that they had witnessed and information they learned at the time. They were sending news back to Rome about the people (and their Gods) from the empire, their point of view was of a military nature and what may be gained by trade, so for that audience the writings can now be read as the most accurate accounts that we have.
One of the worst curses we have created by our dependence on the written word, is 'pigeonholing' and trapping entire concepts into one or two words. It is trampling conceptual language underfoot. And our ancient language dies and is forgotten.
FAKELORE, FAKE MYTH
DISINFORMATION:
IT GOES ON AND ON.....
TIME FOR THE TRUTH
There is growing evidence under the banner of fakelore, or folkloresque, that diminishes the work of historians and researchers into our island's past. And it seeks to give the most negative energy as a thrill component. It takes bits of folklore, with little provenance, invent any story line and present it as bone fide lore. It is as insidious as it is dishonest. Honesty then gives way to downright lies. It also promotes another worrying element. That of engendering new belief systems based on lies.
And people 'suck it up' in this prevalent under belly of our society that says lying is fine.
It is far from fine. It is iniquitous.
Especially when our own Ancestors are maligned in the process.
I have spent seven years researching so deeply into the real lives of the Wihtwara, and finding by archaeological DNA profiling, Mitochondrial DNA that the Wihtwara are very different from those demeaning images.
They were an elegant race of people, who wore their hair long swirled into the Suevian knot. (the book 'Buried' by Professor Alice Roberts) They were Suevii not berserker Vikings. Archaeology has proved they did not invade England. They did not rape and pillage. They came over gradually, intermarried, and integrated into communities, as did other races of people from the continent. History as entertainment goes back as far as the pen scratchings of the monk Bede who wrote about the Saxons and their kings, from a Christian point of view, generations after the fact, 'Bede is talking out of his arse again' as Mackenzie Crook penned so well in the detectorists when looking at 'Anglo-Saxon battles.'
From the seminal work of Sir Frank Stenton, in Anglo Saxon England:-
"It is clear that the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles should not be regarded as a piece of consecutive history. They represent traditions preserved, not for their historical importance, but because their recital once interested a court audience. Under such conditions, many events of far-reaching significance passed entirely out of memory because they were not accompanied by any incident of which a poet could take advantage.
The traditions preserved in the Chronicle are only memoranda derived from verse in praise of ancient kings. And of others: Gildas was writing polemic, not history. Procopius had little interest in the condition of the lost province of Britain: the Fulda tradition was not written down until three centuries after the event which it records." I have throughout my research turned to eminent historians and linguists to support the Wihtwara narrative. If it cannot be sourced well, it doesn't go in. For example, of the conceptual nature of the Wihtwara language, eminent landscape historian John Marcham, who has spent years researching the Anglo Saxon (Suevii) charter boundaries on the island offers this appraisal, from the landscapes and hides on the Isle of wight.
"Hwætinc, The wheat place seems to have been the name of the district. Was growing wheat unusual in this part of the damp clay land?" Ashey was first named Meolcburnantune meaning the river around which there are good pastures! This is a conceptual flourishing and alive language full of wisdom for the land. And most importantly I have consistently worked with the brilliant texts and histories of the Anglo Saxon (Suevii) by the eminent historian and linguist Stephen Pollington. The large and growing dictionary offered here is soundly based on his work.
The Elder Futhark, ancient symbols which hold the power of the 'Mights' have sounds embedded within and when the Wita Witegas or the Niht Gala's and Scōps 'toned' them power is released.

Every researcher and linguistic specialist experiences a eureka moment when that proverbial penny drops into place. It is why we continue the search. A place name our ancestors gave in their beautiful conceptual language can draw a clear picture in our minds. It is not easily forgotten and stands the test of time. It is why the old languages are so important.
I have decided to publish all three maps covering the Wihtwara, Cantwara and Meonwara narrative throughout all three books. They all contributed to the flowing narrative and sometimes changed the course of the plot. The Wihtwara, Cantwara and Meonwara are all Suevii, joined as the confederacy of seven tribes who worshipped Nerthus.
I have also included below the astonishing map discovered after a long search of the true nature of the Suevii. Tacitus was an honest chronicler gifted with the need for accuracy without polemic or hidden agendas. Many tribes are listed along the Cimbric peninsula and not one of them are called Jutes!
I have chosen just a few memorable Wihtwara place names that spurred me on to continue this unique story. (With grateful thanks to John Marcham and John Medland)
The first eureka moment happened suddenly as these moments of truth often do. The name for Cheverton Shute was very unusual. It took some searching. I eventually found the meaning of Ceofodūn Scyte. It blew me sideways! Beetle down. Beetles live here. On a hot summers day several years previously, I climbed up Cheverton down with a group of friends to do a Pipe ceremony. What we found were swarms of beetles, thousands of them mating and flying around us, making an horrendous clicking noise. We hit Nerthus and stayed there for some time. We were in the middle of a mating ceremony, and we had not been invited!!
These rare beetles had flown many miles, just as they had done two thousand years ago when my ancestors named this down after the beetles that still mate here. Just incredible. Time disappeared for me that day and I became a Wihtwarian. And it was around this time, that I discovered my name Whale is truly ancient Suevii, pronounced Wahl and I have a blood line to the Wihtwara. I am exactly where I am meant to be.
Later came the naming of Garston Down which features the great mead hall of Cyng Eileifer in the Wihtwara narrative. I discovered the Suevii name was Lāfadūn meaning Love down, and possibly changed to Garston in the Norman times. Or to Lovegarestune after a person. This was quite common, but for the Wihtwara narrative it became a eureka moment to underpin the love story between Dagrun and Cyng Eileifer. They named their daughter Lāfa.
Stithes Fleots Heafod, the 950m estuary that has the harbour of Newtown Creek near Clamerkin has always held a powerful energy and mystery. Great adventures in the narrative have been created here. Especially as the estuary then was a working inlet allowing many boats to enter and trade. This is why Stiths Fleots Heafod became known as Newtown. It was a flourishing harbour town.
And finally, though there are many more, Culfredūn, named 'after doves live here', and Hwīt clif, Suevii for White Cliff became a eureka for me as I had never visited this powerful open stretch of bay with languid waters and huge cliffs holding ancestor carvings for all to see! And when finally, I made it down the horrendous incline, I was on a mobility scooter. My Grandson went to the caves for me and took wonderful images. I knew my ancestors had lived here. I knew the caves then, were much deeper than today. Coastal erosion is ongoing on the island. The caves are part of an important narrative in the final part of the Wihtwara Trilogy.
These most pivotal eureka moment happened when I researched the Suevii names for Kent and in particular Orpington. I was born there. I am a Kentish lass. Orpington holds a strange energy, in a good way. The people there, I would regard as deeply Kentish in their ways. So much so that when I returned after 40 years away, I was astounded to find that almost all of it had remained the same. It was like entering a bubble in suspended time.
This research took me deep into the Cantwara. Hengist with his son Oisc and Horsa had arrived at Yþwinefleot, (Ebbsfleet). Wihtgils was Cyng and had arrived from Wihtland.
The monumental place named as Wōdenbeorg (Woden Hill) that has Freya Street leading up to it, holds a deep legend. A golden statue of Wōden lies within. It is a sacred place and I have brought the closing climatic narrative to Wōdenbeorg.
I discovered that Oisc became king, and that his people became the Oiscingas of Orðingtun, (Orpington)! And where I used to play in the river as a child and get friendly with the swans, the king had built a Royal Mead hall at Eynsforda (Eynsford).
The Suevii really did plant seven oaks at Seðuenacca, naming that wonderful town, Sevenoaks. (Special thanks to Gabor Thomas with his paper, The Mead halls of the Oiscingas)
Last, but by no means least, the captivating beauty of the River Meon and the ancestors who dwelt there, the spiritual Meonwara. It was a special joy to create the narrative for this part of the Trilogy.
What made it even more incredible, the work of 'Dr Kelly A. Kilpatrick' just fell into my inbox. All the Suevii names for places along the River Meon created a special picture and significance.
It was an amazing moment when I discovered Hincstes Grefan, (Hengist thicket) giving proof and life to a warrior hero whose marker was very close to the wielle fram þæt Mēonæ, The source of the River Meon! And that both Wēoh Lēah ðam Beorga (Wheeley Down) and On eorðe burge geat (Old Winchester hill) are sacred meeting places for our Ancestors the Meonwara.
I hope you have enjoyed reading deeper into the research behind the Wihtwara Trilogy. And that it may inspire you to research for yourself. But Please bear in mind that solid authenticity has been, and always will be, the corner stone I work from. There are unscrupulous people who love to misinform, provide fakelore and call it genuine. They trade on the 'dark ages' being an unknown. That is insulting to both you and me!

Mitch, my dear husband put this colouring to our latest posting on the Wihtwara website. Honouring our Ancestors language and their rich heritage coming through to us after all these hundreds of years hit home. It is clearly honouring Ukraine too!
The Wihtwara as a truly pagan people vanished in the massacre of 686C.E. They were obliterated from memory.
I am very close to finally writing about that massacre. It is hard. Because of the true visions I received at the Longstone and my bloodline goes to the Wihtwara, it has become very personal. I can feel the loss acutely.
We are at this moment witnessing the intended evil of Putin to annihilate the Ukrainians with the similar rhetoric and lies as before, that the Roman Catholics swept over the Pagans and their devotion to Nerthus and the natural world.
And we feel this acutely. Our hearts, souls and minds are with our friends and neighbours. As strong now as on the 24th of February last year. We are a strong nation. We can and must hold out for them in whatever way we are able.
I made the Video, Tears, Hope and Certainty on the 24th of February last year. It is about Hope, and it is about Certainty that Ukrainians will be free.
It about freedom.
Just that.
